Our responsibilities to reduce the global warming

It is very crucial to take immediate steps to minimise the causes that affects and aggravated the global warming. There are so many things that can be done in order to lessen this impact as individuals. Even though they are appear to be so simple the results of which will help to save the earth for our next generation and save our pockets as well.

When we are Shopping, we can; “buy what we need, not what we want”, think about renting and borrowing things that are infrequently needed, buy used items from garage sales and second-hand stores.

At home we are able to; replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, use aerators on faucets and shower heads, weather-strip windows and doors.

Since emission of gases has high percentage of contribution to this problem, it is time we thought alternatives for our transportation such as; walking, cycling, car pooling and using public transportation, when driving, reduce idling and maintaining correct tire pressure, considering car sharing programs or renting. In addition, to minimise long hours of travel we can choose places to spend our vacation, travel and work as close to our home as possible.

It is true that our busy lifestyle has changed our food patterns to a greater extent and takes away our health from us limiting our existence shorter than our ancestors. So, I think it is a good idea to have second thoughts about our food choices like; choosing local and organic foods that are in season, and supporting local food producers, eat less meat etc.

When washing and drying, you can wash full loads of clothes in cold water and hang to air dry. As we all know the methods that uses for heating and cooling of our houses also have a negative impact on this issue. Hence for summer air conditioning, we can set our thermostat to 24°C or 25°C and for winter heating, set our thermostat to 19°C or 20°C. Further, we can install ceiling fans and programmable thermostats.

Even though we did not notice, we waste lot of water unless we pay attention to our bathroom basics. To avoid such waste we can consider taking short showers instead of baths and close water taps while brushing our teeth. Besides, we can be more careful while cleaning our houses by choosing natural, non-toxic cleaning products as well as making simple, natural cleaners with ingredients like vinegar, baking soda and water.

As we are aware our disposals also make negative contribution to this issue, so if we can donate, reuse and recycle items before throwing them into the trash and taking the harmful materials like chemicals, batteries, electronics, etc. to local hazardous waste depots or recyclers we can minimise the environmental pollution as well as we are saving our scares resources.

It is true that we as individuals cannot make much difference to this effect since the large oil and manufacturing companies make it even harder, but if we neglect our role today in our capacity since the collectively it counts a lot, we all will have to regret in the very near future.

It's WINTER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

I saw the first snow today morning and went back to my memories, the 1st day I landed to Canada-Edmonton, it was 12 Feb 2009. The most interesting thing was at back home we never experienced a winter and I had never seen snow, in addition when I left my country the average temperature was +30 degrees Celsius and when I landed here after 2 days it was -30 degrees Celsius. So altogether it was 60 degrees difference at once. I was about to freeze when I came out from the Edmonton Airport. But I was so excited when I first saw snow and it was in my childhood dreams to play with snow which I had been seen only through pictures and movies. I was unable to believe that whether I was in the real world or still dreaming. So, the same feeling I had today morning as soon as I got out from my home to come to school. Even though it was so cold, I love to see my dream in reality.

West Edmonton Mall

We went to the West Edmonton Mall (WEM), located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on August 25th. I would like to share my memories about our outing. First of all let us share some information which I read in the inter net about the Mall. It is the largest shopping mall in North America and the fifth largest in the world, founded by Ghermezian brothers who immigrated from Iran in 1959.It was the world's largest mall for a 23 year period from 1981 until 2004.West Edmonton Mall covers a gross area of about 570,000 m² (well over 6 million ft²) and cost C$1.2 billion to build. There are over 800 stores and services and parking for more than 20,000 vehicles. More than 23,000 people are employed at the property. The mall receives 28.2 million visitors per year and between 60,000 and 150,000 shoppers daily depending on the day and season. The mall is currently valued at C$926 million.

The most interresting thing for me in the mall was the Sealion show at the Sealion's Rock. The activities that excibited by the two sea lions were amazing. We all enjoied it a lot, Enjoy the photoes we took at that show. The training that had been provided to thoes animals was excellent. Mostly Kids liked this and they took photoes with the Sealions.

The next interesting thing was, my son (Virun) and my husband (Rushan) went to train Ice Skating at the first time in their life. I was so hard to imaging how they were learnt it within few hours without any proper instructions by a qualified instructor. Ultimatly Ice Skating became the favourit Deep Sea Derbysport of my son.
